Southall has been a major centre for the South Asian and predominantly Sikh community since the 1950s. Dennis Morris, a Jamaican born photographer widely known for his portraits of Bob Marley and The Sex Pistols, took a whole series of photographs of Southall in the 1970s. His images document the Asian community adapting to life in Britain and are a unique record of their festivals and daily lives at this crucial period. This photograph is one of the collection purchased recently by Gunnersbury Park Museum with the aid of the Heritage Lottery Fund.
