On Common Ground - Law Enforcement Training Video on Sikhism
Sikh Documentary

To view this SALDEF documentary, click on image

In the aftermath of 9/11 a lot of people were suspecious of anyone wearing a turban. In more than 90% of cases the person in question would be a Sikh. Sikhs originate from north India and are different from Muslims. This video although a training video for law enforcement agencies explains well to a non Sikh what a Sikh stands for. To sum it up the turban and Kirpan which are major articles of suspecion for non-Sikhs were provided to Sikhs by Guru Gobind singh to fight against and defend themselves from such people who did 9/11. So it is the biggest irony if Sikhs are mistaken to be related to perpetrators of 9/11. One other point to be noted for Sikh relegion is that it believes to respect and protect the rights of other free people. Guru Tegh Bahadhur gave martyrdom not to protect Sikhs but rights of a different religion .

From the opening of doors in wee-hours of morning till the end in the night, there is a continuous recitation of holy hymns (Gurbani).

At night after the departure of Sri Guru Granth Sahib on a gold-palanquin the floor of the Harmandir Sahib is given a thorough wash with diluted milk by volunteers. The doing of this service is accompained by sweet singing of holy-hyms. After this cleaning the mats, on which Sri Granth Sahib is enshrined, are spread, followed by distribution of sacred-food. Then the hymn-singing concert of early morning (Tin-Pahrey-Di-Chaunkee) starts.

There is non-stop reading (Sri Akhand Path) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib at various locations in the building of Sri Harmandir Sahib.

Note: There is, however, a change in these timings according to summer or winter.
